Habanero with love

Op de markt in Maastricht ligt een waanzinnige burrito bar! With Love burrito. Wyatt is een van de creatieve breinen achter dit concept dat ook op zondag-avond een podcast radioshow host op hun website. With Love Radio zorgt voor een wonderbaarlijke avond vol favorieten uit muziekcollecties van diverse interessante gasten. 

Naast een liefde voor muziek delen we een liefde voor de pittige dingen in het leven. Die voor capsicum van de nachtschade familie bijv., waar oa. ook de tomaten toebehoren.

Habanero, naar het schijnt de pittigste mexicaanse peper. Het beste draag je plastic handschoenen als je hem open wil maken. Nog beter is deze peper in zijn geheel mee te laten garen en vervolgens uit het gerecht te halen. Echter als je de zaden wil hebben zoals in mijn geval, dan bent u gewaarschuwd. Leg de zaden op een vochtig stuk keukenpapier of toiletpapieren en laat ze daarop drogen. Vervolgens de zaden 2-3 cm onder de grond zaaien en het liefst het potje afschermen met een deksel of plastic. 

Groene vingers kweken

De uitdrukking ik heb geen groene vingers kan bestaan maar er niks aan kunnen doen is absolute onzin. De natuur laat zich lezen, al doende leert men. Begin klein, op de vensterbank indien nodig, en beleef het plezier van het groeien van je eigen planten.

 

 

 

Mijn eigen zadenbank

Since a few years I’m collecting my own tomatoes and pepper seeds. In different variations of course, peppers come in a dutch pepper version, red peppers, also chili peppers called (if I’m wright). Madame Jeanettes’ and Jalapeños. If you want to see an interesting list of nearly 150 different peppers, visit the site of Cayenne Diane and you’ll be surprised. From the nightshade family I collected, campari-, plum- and cherry tomatoes. Tomaccio’s as presented on this wikipedia page are also amongst my harvest. I’m planning to sell these seeds in a shop on this site. In the meantime send me an email if you’re interested.

Ongewenst bezoek

Katten in de tuin! Een beetje zout op mijn tomaten vind ik niet erg maar dit ging iets verder.

I had a little problem in my garden from the moment I moved in here last may(2017). So now and then I found some disturbance in my soil or some pots had fallen down or on top of my other plants. Turns out we have some neighboring cats that love to disturb gardens and leave there feces all over the place, so I was told by an older lady a few houses down the street. I had no clue she was helping my fertilize my soil but I’d rather have my tomatoes feces-free. I tried several things to keep the cat from digging in my garden up until the point I had half a bucket full of cat feces. I was close to bring it back to its owner. (I’m talking about the bucket.) As I couldn’t blame the cat for being a cat and have some fun at night. But something had to be done. Turns out putting chickenwire or an other type of wire fencing in your garden, prevent cats from digging in the first place. Cut the wires open if you want to plant your beloved ones at the start of the season. I also made a biological cat-repellent spray from vinegar and lemon juice. Mix it yourself, pour it into a sprayer and spray it on places you don’t want the cat to come.

You can also ad some rosemary herb, which is also a fragrance cats don’t appreciate.
